Meningitis B (MenB) Vaccinations for Students
If you are starting university for the first time this year, you may be eligible for a MenB vaccination to help protect against meningococcal group B disease, a rare but serious infection that can cause meningitis and septicaemia.
Students living in shared accommodation, such as university halls of residence, are at a higher risk of meningococcal infection, so we encourage eligible students to be vaccinated before starting university wherever possible.
How to Book Your MenB Vaccination
If you are in Year 13 (aged 17-18):
- Book online through the NHS App or NHS website.
- Alternatively, call 119 to book your appointment.
If you are older than Year 13:
- MenB vaccination appointments cannot be booked online or via 119.
- Please contact a participating community pharmacy directly to arrange your vaccination.
- The pharmacy will ask for proof of your university acceptance when you attend your appointment, so please ensure you bring this with you.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible for a MenB vaccination, please visit the NHS website or speak to a participating pharmacy for advice.
Protect yourself before you go. The MenB vaccine can help protect against a serious and potentially life-threatening infection and is an important part of preparing for university life.
